Story of jesus preaches in nazareth – नाज़रेथ में यीशु के उपदेश की कहानी

The story of Jesus preaching in Nazareth is recorded in the New Testament of the Bible, specifically in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 4:16-30). This episode takes place early in Jesus’ ministry and provides insight into his role as a prophet and teacher.

After being baptized by John the Baptist and spending time in the wilderness, Jesus returned to his hometown of Nazareth in the region of Galilee. He had already gained some recognition as a teacher and healer.

On the Sabbath day, as was his custom, Jesus went to the synagogue in Nazareth. The synagogue was a place of worship and study where Jewish communities gathered.

During the Sabbath service, Jesus was given the opportunity to read from the scroll of the prophet Isaiah. He read a passage that proclaimed the Spirit of the Lord was upon him, anointing him to preach good news to the poor, proclaim freedom to the captives, restore sight to the blind, and release the oppressed.

After reading the passage, Jesus declared that “today, this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” This announcement signified that he saw himself as the fulfillment of the messianic prophecy in Isaiah.

At first, those in the synagogue were amazed by his words and wondered at the wisdom and power of his teaching. They spoke highly of him, being aware of the miracles he had performed in other places.

However, the mood in the synagogue quickly shifted as the people began to question his identity. They could not accept that a local boy like Jesus could be the fulfillment of the prophecy. They asked, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” In response, Jesus predicted that no prophet is accepted in his hometown and mentioned examples of God’s favor on non-Israelite individuals during the time of past prophets.

The people’s initial admiration turned to anger, and they attempted to drive Jesus out of town. They even led him to a nearby cliff with the intent of throwing him off it, but he miraculously passed through the crowd and departed from Nazareth.

This story illustrates the tension and skepticism that Jesus faced, even in his own hometown. It also highlights his self-identity as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and his mission to bring good news and healing to those in need. Ultimately, the rejection in Nazareth foreshadows the broader rejection that Jesus would face during his ministry.
