After their visit, the Wise Men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod. They departed for their own country by another route, thus avoiding Herod and his malicious plans.
The Wise Men were likely Gentiles, and their recognition of Jesus as king signifies the universal nature of Jesus’ mission. Their journey and gifts fulfill Old Testament prophecies about the nations bringing tribute to the Messiah.
