The story of the wicked queen of jezebel – इज़ेबेल की दुष्ट रानी की कहानी

Jezebel, often regarded as one of the most wicked queens in the Bible, is primarily featured in the books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings. Here is a summarized version of her story:

Jezebel was a Phoenician princess, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians. She married Ahab, the king of Israel, and became queen. Her story is marked by her promotion of Baal worship, opposition to the prophets of Yahweh, and acts of cruelty and deception.

Jezebel introduced and vigorously promoted the worship of Baal and Asherah in Israel, leading King Ahab and many Israelites astray (1 Kings 16:31-33). She supported 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah, hosting them at her royal table (1 Kings 18:19).

Jezebel sought to eliminate the worship of Yahweh by ordering the massacre of Yahweh’s prophets (1 Kings 18:4, 13). Obadiah, a servant of Ahab, hid 100 prophets of Yahweh in two caves to protect them from Jezebel’s wrath (1 Kings 18:4).

The prophet Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal to a contest on Mount Carmel to prove the power of Yahweh over Baal. God answered Elijah’s prayer with fire from heaven, leading to the slaughter of Baal’s prophets (1 Kings 18:20-40). Jezebel vowed to kill Elijah in retaliation, forcing him to flee for his life (1 Kings 19:1-3).

Ahab coveted the vineyard of Naboth, a Jezreelite, but Naboth refused to sell it because it was his ancestral inheritance (1 Kings 21:1-3). Jezebel orchestrated a scheme to falsely accuse Naboth of blasphemy and treason, leading to his execution by stoning (1 Kings 21:7-14). After Naboth’s death, Ahab took possession of the vineyard (1 Kings 21:15-16).

Elijah confronted Ahab and Jezebel, prophesying that their entire dynasty would be destroyed because of their sins. He specifically foretold that dogs would devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel (1 Kings 21:17-24).

Ahab was killed in battle as foretold by the prophet Micaiah (1 Kings 22:34-38).

Jehu, a commander in Israel’s army, was anointed by a prophet to destroy Ahab’s house and become king (2 Kings 9:1-13). Jehu killed Joram, Ahab’s son and the reigning king, and marched to Jezreel to confront Jezebel (2 Kings 9:14-26).

As Jehu entered Jezreel, Jezebel adorned herself and looked out of a window, taunting him (2 Kings 9:30-31). Jehu ordered her eunuchs to throw her down from the window. They complied, and Jezebel fell to her death. Her body was trampled by horses (2 Kings 9:32-33). When they went to bury her, they found only her skull, feet, and hands, fulfilling Elijah’s prophecy that dogs would devour her flesh (2 Kings 9:34-37).

Jezebel’s story is a stark example of idolatry, manipulation, and evil in leadership. Her actions brought severe consequences upon herself, her family, and the nation of Israel. Her legacy serves as a warning against turning away from righteousness and leading others into sin.
