The story of the prodigal son – उड़ाऊ पुत्र की कहानी

The story of the Prodigal Son, also known as the Parable of the Lost Son, is one of the most well-known parables of Jesus and can be found in Luke 15:11-32. It tells a powerful tale of repentance, forgiveness, and unconditional love. Here’s a summary, particularly focusing on when the prodigal son becomes a swineherd:

A man had two sons, and the younger son asked his father for his share of the inheritance early. The father, though it was an unusual request, agreed and divided his wealth between the two sons. The younger son took his portion of the inheritance and left for a distant country, where he squandered all his wealth in reckless and indulgent living.

After spending everything, a severe famine struck the land, and the younger son found himself in desperate need. With no money and no food, he was forced to find work, but the only job he could get was as a swineherd, taking care of pigs—an unclean animal in Jewish culture, making his situation all the more humiliating.

The son was so hungry that even the food the pigs were eating began to look appetizing to him. Yet, no one gave him anything to eat. At this lowest point in his life, he came to his senses and realized that even his father’s hired servants had food to spare, while he was starving in a foreign land.

The son decided to return to his father, humbled and repentant, planning to say, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.”

As the son approached home, his father saw him from a distance and, filled with compassion, ran to him, embraced him, and kissed him. The son began to confess his sins, but before he could finish, the father called for the best robe, a ring, and sandals to be brought for him, and ordered a great feast to celebrate his return. The father declared, “This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”

The older son, who had been faithfully working in the fields, became angry when he heard of the celebration. He felt it was unfair that his wayward brother was being treated so generously after wasting the family’s wealth. The father, however, explained that the return of the younger son was cause for celebration because he had been lost and had now returned home.

The story of the Prodigal Son emphasizes themes of forgiveness, mercy, and the joy of reconciliation, particularly highlighting God’s boundless love and willingness to welcome back anyone who repents and returns to Him, no matter how far they have strayed.
