The son was so hungry that even the food the pigs were eating began to look appetizing to him. Yet, no one gave him anything to eat. At this lowest point in his life, he came to his senses and realized that even his father’s hired servants had food to spare, while he was starving in a foreign land.
The son decided to return to his father, humbled and repentant, planning to say, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.”

The son began to confess his sins, but before he could finish, the father called for the best robe, a ring, and sandals to be brought for him, and ordered a great feast to celebrate his return. The father declared, “This son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.”

He felt it was unfair that his wayward brother was being treated so generously after wasting the family’s wealth.
