The story of the fall of the walls of jericho – जेरिको की दीवारें गिरने की कहानी

Many years ago, after the Israelites had wandered in the desert for forty years, they finally stood on the brink of entering the Promised Land. Joshua, the leader appointed by God after Moses, was ready to lead them. The first city they encountered was Jericho, a fortified city with towering walls.

God spoke to Joshua and said, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse, and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”

Joshua relayed God’s unusual battle plan to the people of Israel. The priests took up the Ark of the Covenant, and seven priests carrying trumpets of rams’ horns went before them. The armed men marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard followed the ark while the trumpets kept sounding.

For six days, they marched once around the city each day in complete silence, except for the sound of the trumpets. The people of Jericho watched from their walls, undoubtedly bewildered and anxious about the Israelites’ strange behavior.

On the seventh day, they rose at dawn and marched around the city in the same manner, but this time they circled it seven times. As they completed the seventh circuit, the priests sounded a long blast on their trumpets, and Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city! The city and all that is in it are to be devoted to the Lord.”

When the trumpets sounded, the people shouted at the top of their lungs. Miraculously, the massive walls of Jericho came tumbling down. The Israelites charged straight into the city and captured it.

Joshua had given specific instructions to spare Rahab, the prostitute who had hidden the Israelite spies sent earlier to scout the land, and all who were with her in her house. She and her family were brought out and kept safe outside the camp of Israel.

The city of Jericho was then completely destroyed by the Israelites as an offering to the Lord. Only Rahab and her family were spared because of her faith and kindness to the spies. Rahab and her family lived among the Israelites from that day forward.

Thus, Jericho fell not by might or conventional warfare but by faith and obedience to God’s extraordinary instructions. This victory marked the beginning of the Israelites’ conquest of the Promised Land, demonstrating God’s power and faithfulness to His promises.
