The story of Pharaoh not listening is primarily found in the Book of Exodus in the Bible. The Israelites had been enslaved in Egypt for many years, and God chose Moses to lead them out of bondage and into freedom. Moses, empowered by God, confronts Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, demanding the release of the Israelites.
Moses and his brother Aaron approach Pharaoh and ask him to let the Israelites go into the wilderness to worship their God. Pharaoh refuses, saying he does not know the Israelites’ God and will not let them go.
God sends a series of plagues upon Egypt to convince Pharaoh to release the Israelites. These plagues include turning the Nile River into blood, a plague of frogs, gnats, flies, the death of livestock, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and the death of the firstborn.
Despite witnessing the devastation caused by the plagues, Pharaoh remains stubborn and refuses to let the Israelites go. Each time a plague strikes, Pharaoh initially agrees to let the Israelites leave, but then changes his mind once the plague is lifted.
The final plague is the death of the firstborn in every Egyptian household. God instructs the Israelites to mark their doorposts with the blood of a lamb so that the angel of death will pass over their homes. Pharaoh’s own firstborn son dies, and he finally relents, allowing the Israelites to leave.
The Israelites leave Egypt in haste, taking their belongings and livestock with them. Pharaoh later regrets his decision and sends his army to pursue the Israelites at the Red Sea.
God miraculously parts the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry land. When Pharaoh’s army attempts to follow, the waters close in on them, drowning the soldiers.
Pharaoh’s refusal to listen to Moses and his hardened heart result in immense suffering for the Egyptians and the eventual destruction of Pharaoh’s army. The story serves as a demonstration of God’s power, justice, and mercy, as well as the consequences of human arrogance and stubbornness.
