The story of peter’s confession to christ – मसीह के सामने पीटर की स्वीकारोक्ति की कहानी
The story of Peter’s confession to Christ is a significant moment in the New Testament and is found in the Gospel accounts, specifically in the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 16, verses 13-20.
Jesus and his disciples came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, a place known for its pagan worship.
While in Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” He was inquiring about the public opinion regarding his identity.
The disciples shared the various opinions circulating among the people. Some thought Jesus was John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
Jesus then turned the question directly to his disciples, asking, “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” It was Peter who spoke up with a powerful confession of faith, saying, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus acknowledged the divine revelation in Peter’s confession, stating that flesh and blood did not reveal this to him, but his Father in heaven. Jesus affirmed Peter’s declaration and indicated that upon this rock (the confession of Christ’s identity), he would build his church.
Jesus went on to tell Peter that he would give him the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever Peter bound on earth would be bound in heaven, and whatever he loosed on earth would be loosed in heaven.
After this profound moment, Jesus charged his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah. It wasn’t the right time for a public declaration of his messiahship, and Jesus wanted to control the timing and circumstances of the revelation.
This event is crucial in the Gospels because it marks a turning point where Peter, as a representative of the disciples, publicly acknowledges Jesus as the long-awaited Messiah. It underscores the divinity of Jesus and sets the stage for further teachings on the nature of his mission and the establishment of the Church.
