The story of paul and silas in jail – जेल में पॉल और सीलास की कहानी
The story of Paul and Silas in Jail is found in the New Testament of the Bible, in the book of Acts, chapter 16, verses 16-40.
Paul and Silas, two early Christian missionaries, were in the city of Philippi, where they had been preaching the gospel and performing miracles. One day, as they were going to the place of prayer, they were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. This girl followed Paul and Silas around, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”
Although what the girl said was true, Paul became annoyed by her constant shouting. So he turned to her and commanded the spirit to come out of her, which it did instantly.
However, her owners, who made money from her fortune-telling abilities, were furious when they saw that their source of income was gone. They seized Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities, accusing them of causing a disturbance in the city and advocating customs unlawful for Romans to accept.
The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.
So, the jailer put them into the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks. But around midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
Suddenly, there was a violent earthquake that shook the foundations of the prison. At once, all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose. When the jailer woke up and saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped.
But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”
Trembling with fear, the jailer fell down before Paul and Silas. He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
The jailer took Paul and Silas to his house, where they shared the word of the Lord with him and his entire household. The jailer and his family believed and were baptized that same night.
The next morning, the magistrates sent orders to release Paul and Silas from prison. When they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens and had been beaten without a trial, they became afraid and went to apologize to them. Paul and Silas then left the prison and went to Lydia’s house, where they met with and encouraged the believers before departing from Philippi.
