The story of parable of the tenants in the vineyard – दाख की बारी में किरायेदारों के दृष्टांत की कहानी
The Parable of the Tenants in the Vineyard is one of the teachings of Jesus recorded in the New Testament of the Bible, found in the Gospels of Matthew (21:33-46), Mark (12:1-12), and Luke (20:9-19).
Jesus tells this parable during his ministry in Jerusalem, in response to religious leaders who question his authority.
Jesus begins by describing a landowner who planted a vineyard, dug a winepress, and built a watchtower. He then leased the vineyard to some tenants and went on a journey.
When the harvest time approached, the landowner sent his servants to the tenants to collect his share of the produce. However, the tenants mistreated the servants. They beat one, killed another, and stoned a third.
The landowner then sent a larger group of servants, but the tenants treated them in the same way, beating and mistreating them.
Finally, the landowner decided to send his son, thinking that the tenants would respect him. But when the tenants saw the son, they plotted together and said, “This is the heir. Let’s kill him and take his inheritance.” So they seized the son, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
Jesus then asks the religious leaders listening to the parable, “What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?” They reply, “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end and lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his share of the crop at harvest time.”
Jesus then quotes from Psalm 118:22-23, saying, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” He explains that the religious leaders have rejected him, the Son of God, just as the tenants rejected the landowner’s son. Therefore, the kingdom of God will be taken away from them and given to others who will produce its fruit.
This parable highlights the theme of God’s patience and mercy, as well as the consequences of rejecting his messengers and his Son. It also foreshadows Jesus’ own death and the eventual expansion of the Christian faith beyond the Jewish community.
