The story of nicodemus meeting jesus – निकुदेमुस की यीशु से मुलाकात की कहानी
In the Gospel of John, chapter 3, there is a compelling narrative about Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a member of the Jewish ruling council, who sought out Jesus under the cover of night. Nicodemus was a learned man, well-versed in the scriptures, but he was intrigued by the teachings and miracles of Jesus. His visit to Jesus reveals a journey from confusion to understanding, from darkness to light.
Nicodemus came to Jesus at night, likely to avoid the scrutiny of his peers. He began the conversation by acknowledging Jesus as a teacher who had come from God. “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs you are doing if God were not with him” (John 3:2).
Jesus responded to Nicodemus with a profound statement that challenged his understanding: “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again” (John 3:3). This concept puzzled Nicodemus, leading him to ask how a person could be born again when they are old. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” (John 3:4).
Jesus explained that being born again is not a physical rebirth but a spiritual one. “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit” (John 3:5-6). He further emphasized the mysterious and sovereign work of the Holy Spirit in this process: “The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:8).
Despite his learning, Nicodemus struggled to grasp these spiritual truths. Jesus gently rebuked him for his lack of understanding despite being a teacher of Israel. “You are Israel’s teacher, and do you not understand these things?” (John 3:10). Jesus continued to reveal the deeper truths of God’s plan for salvation, culminating in the famous verse, John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Nicodemus’s visit to Jesus marked the beginning of his journey to faith. Although he came to Jesus in darkness, both literally and metaphorically, he began to see the light of who Jesus truly was. Later in the Gospel of John, Nicodemus appears again, first defending Jesus before the Sanhedrin (John 7:50-52) and then helping to prepare Jesus’ body for burial after the crucifixion (John 19:39-40), showing his growing faith and devotion.
Nicodemus’s story is a powerful example of the journey from doubt and confusion to faith and understanding. It highlights the necessity of spiritual rebirth and the transformative power of belief in Jesus Christ. Nicodemus’s encounter with Jesus underlines the importance of seeking the truth, regardless of the cost or the opinions of others, and it encourages all to come into the light of Christ for true understanding and eternal life.
