The story of mary and the angel – मैरी और एंजेल की कहानी

The story of Mary and the Angel, often referred to as the Annunciation, is a well-known event in Christian tradition, primarily recounted in the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament.

A young woman named Mary, who lived in the town of Nazareth in Galilee, was betrothed to a man named Joseph, who was of the house of David. The angel Gabriel was sent by God to Mary. This visitation is significant as Gabriel is one of the chief messengers of God.

Gabriel greeted Mary, saying, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” Mary was initially troubled by this greeting, pondering what kind of salutation this might be. Gabriel told Mary not to be afraid, for she had found favor with God.

Gabriel announced that Mary would conceive in her womb and bear a son, and she was to name him Jesus.

The angel described Jesus’ future greatness, stating that He would be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God would give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He would reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom, there would be no end.

Mary asked the angel how this would happen, given that she was a virgin. Gabriel explained that the Holy Spirit would come upon her, and the power of the Most High would overshadow her; therefore, the child to be born would be holy and called the Son of God.

As a sign, Gabriel informed Mary about the miraculous pregnancy of her relative Elizabeth, who was barren but now in her old age had conceived a son.

Mary responded with faith and obedience, saying, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word.” After this, the angel departed from her.

This event is seen as a fulfillment of prophecy and a pivotal moment in Christian theology, where God takes on human flesh in the person of Jesus Christ.

Mary’s response is often highlighted as an example of faith and obedience to God’s will.

The Annunciation is crucial in Christian doctrine as it marks the moment of the Incarnation, where Jesus, who Christians believe is God the Son, became human.

The Annunciation to Mary holds a significant place in Christian teachings and is celebrated in various Christian traditions. It underscores themes of divine intervention, fulfillment of prophecy, and willing submission to God’s plan for salvation.
