The story of joash and jehoiada – योआश और यहोयादा की कहानी

The story of Joash and Jehoiada is found in the Second Book of Kings in the Old Testament. It narrates the relationship between Joash, a young king of Judah, and Jehoiada, the high priest who played a crucial role in his life.

Athaliah, the mother of Joash (also known as Jehoash), was the daughter of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel of Israel. After the death of her son Ahaziah, who was the king of Judah, Athaliah sought to eliminate all potential heirs to the throne to consolidate her power. However, Joash, the infant son of Ahaziah, was secretly rescued by his aunt Jehosheba and her husband Jehoiada, the high priest.

Jehosheba hid Joash in the temple of the Lord for six years while Athaliah ruled as queen. Jehoiada and his wife played a crucial role in protecting the child.

When Joash was seven years old, Jehoiada revealed his existence to the leaders of the military and the priests. They devised a plan to anoint Joash as the rightful king of Judah.

Jehoiada anointed Joash as king, and the people rejoiced. An oath of allegiance was made between the king, the people, and the Lord to follow the covenant and obey the commandments.

Jehoiada and the leaders orchestrated Athaliah’s overthrow. She was killed, and Joash was crowned as the legitimate king of Judah.

During the early years of Joash’s reign, Jehoiada guided him in implementing religious reforms. The temple of the Lord, which had fallen into disrepair, was restored through Joash’s efforts.

Joash remained faithful to the Lord as long as Jehoiada was alive. The high priest served as a mentor and guide, influencing Joash in matters of faith and governance.

Unfortunately, after the death of Jehoiada, Joash turned away from the Lord. He heeded the advice of wicked counselors, and the people also abandoned the worship of God.

Joash’s reign ended tragically. When he faced a threat from Hazael, king of Aram, Joash attempted to appease him with treasures from the temple. Later in his life, he was assassinated by his own servants.

The story of Joash and Jehoiada highlights the impact of godly influence and mentorship. Jehoiada played a pivotal role in preserving the line of David and guiding Joash toward faithfulness. However, Joash’s later departure from the Lord serves as a cautionary tale about the importance of personal commitment and faithfulness in one’s relationship with God.
