The story of Jesus instructing his disciples to share the Gospel, also known as the Great Commission, is recorded in the New Testament in several passages, including Matthew 28:16-20, Mark 16:15-18, Luke 24:44-49, and Acts 1:6-8.

After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples multiple times over a period of forty days, teaching them about the kingdom of God. This particular event occurs just before Jesus ascends into heaven, marking the end of his earthly ministry.

Jesus gathers his disciples in Galilee and gives them a command to go and make disciples of all nations. He tells them to baptize new believers in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Jesus instructs them to teach these new disciples to obey everything he has commanded them.

Jesus assures his disciples of his presence with them always, even to the end of the age. He promises to send them the Holy Spirit to empower them for this mission.

The disciples worshiped Jesus but some doubted. Despite any doubts, the disciples obey Jesus’ command and begin to spread the Gospel message, ultimately leading to the growth and expansion of the early Christian church.

The Great Commission is foundational to Christian mission and evangelism, emphasizing the importance of spreading the Gospel message to all people. It highlights the universal scope of Jesus’ message and the responsibility of all believers to share their faith with others. The commission also underscores the role of the Holy Spirit in empowering and guiding believers in their mission.

The Great Commission remains a central mandate for Christians today, inspiring believers to share the message of salvation through Jesus Christ with people of all nations and cultures.
