When they arrived, they found that the stone had been rolled away and the tomb was empty. Inside, they saw an angel who told them that Jesus had risen from the dead. Jesus appeared multiple times to His followers after His resurrection:
Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene outside the tomb. Initially, she did not recognize Him and thought He was the gardener. When He called her by name, she realized who He was and ran to tell the disciples.
Jesus appeared to His disciples on several occasions. On one such occasion, He appeared to two disciples walking to the village of Emmaus. They did not recognize Him at first, but He explained the Scriptures to them, and when He broke bread with them, their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him.
Jesus appeared to the disciples who were gathered in a locked room out of fear of the Jewish authorities. He showed them His wounds to prove that He was indeed alive. Thomas, who was not present at the time, doubted their story. Later, Jesus appeared again and invited Thomas to touch His wounds, which dispelled his doubts.
Jesus also appeared to some of His disciples by the Sea of Galilee, where He helped them catch a large number of fish after a fruitless night of fishing. He then shared a meal with them and reinforced their mission to spread His teachings.
Before ascending into heaven, Jesus gave His disciples what is known as the Great Commission. He instructed them to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them and teaching them to obey everything He had commanded. Jesus then ascended into heaven, promising to be with His followers always, to the very end of the age.
The resurrection of Jesus is of paramount importance in Christianity. It signifies His victory over death and sin, providing the foundation for the Christian belief in eternal life. It is seen as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies and the ultimate demonstration of Jesus’ divine nature.
