The story of jesus and his disciples – यीशु और उनके शिष्यों की कहानी

The story of Jesus and His disciples is central to the New Testament, highlighting His ministry, teachings, and the close relationship He had with His followers.

Jesus first encountered Simon Peter and his brother Andrew while they were fishing by the Sea of Galilee. He called them to follow Him, promising to make them “fishers of men” (Matthew 4:18-20). Shortly after, Jesus called James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were also fishermen. They left their boat and father to follow Him (Matthew 4:21-22).

Jesus saw Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth and called him to follow. Matthew immediately got up and followed Jesus, later hosting a dinner for Jesus and His disciples (Matthew 9:9-13).

Jesus chose twelve men from among His followers to be His apostles, giving them authority to preach and perform miracles. The names of the twelve apostles are:

–  Simon Peter
–  Andrew
–  James (son of Zebedee)
–  John (brother of James)
–  Philip
–  Bartholomew (Nathanael)
–  Thomas
–  Matthew
–  James (son of Alphaeus)
–  Thaddaeus (Jude)
–  Simon the Zealot
–  Judas Iscariot (later replaced by Matthias after his betrayal of Jesus)

Jesus taught His disciples about the Kingdom of God, often using parables. He performed numerous miracles, demonstrating His divine power and compassion. Some significant events include:

Jesus delivered profound teachings, including the Beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayer, and instructions on love, forgiveness, and righteousness (Matthew 5-7).

Jesus miraculously fed a crowd of over 5,000 people with five loaves of bread and two fish, demonstrating His provision and power (Matthew 14:13-21).

Jesus walked on water to reach His disciples’ boat during a storm. Peter briefly walked on water toward Jesus but began to sink when he doubted. Jesus saved him, emphasizing faith (Matthew 14:22-33).

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain. There, He was transfigured, and His appearance shone like the sun. Moses and Elijah appeared, talking with Him. A voice from a bright cloud declared, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” (Matthew 17:1-8).

Jesus shared the Passover meal with His disciples, instituting the Eucharist. He foretold His betrayal by Judas and Peter’s denial. He washed His disciples’ feet, teaching humility and service (John 13, Matthew 26:17-30).

Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, anguished about His impending crucifixion. Judas arrived with soldiers and betrayed Jesus with a kiss. Jesus was arrested and taken to be tried (Matthew 26:36-56).

Jesus was tried, condemned, and crucified. His disciples were devastated, but He had foretold His resurrection (Matthew 27). On the third day, Jesus rose from the dead. He appeared to His disciples, reassuring them and commissioning them to spread the Gospel to all nations (Matthew 28, John 20-21).

Before ascending to heaven, Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).

The relationship between Jesus and His disciples is marked by teaching, mentoring, love, and sacrifice. Through His interactions with them, Jesus prepared His disciples to carry on His mission and spread His teachings throughout the world.
