The story of jacob lying to his father – याकूब द्वारा अपने पिता से झूठ बोलने की कहानी

The story of Jacob lying to his father, Isaac, is found in the Book of Genesis, specifically in Genesis 27.

Isaac, the son of Abraham, had grown old and was nearly blind. Sensing that his death was near, he called his eldest son, Esau, and asked him to prepare a meal of his favorite wild game so that he could bless him before he died. Isaac intended to give Esau the special blessing that would pass on the family leadership and inheritance.

Rebekah, Isaac’s wife and Jacob’s mother, overheard the conversation and devised a plan to secure the blessing for Jacob, her favorite son. She instructed Jacob to bring her two young goats from the flock, which she would prepare as a meal to present to Isaac.

Jacob was hesitant, knowing that Esau was a hairy man while he was smooth-skinned. But Rebekah assured him that she would take responsibility for the consequences. She dressed Jacob in Esau’s clothes and covered his hands and neck with goatskins to simulate Esau’s hairy appearance.

Jacob took the meal to Isaac, who was suspicious that it was Esau. Jacob lied, saying, “I am Esau, your firstborn.” Isaac was unconvinced and asked Jacob to come closer so that he could feel him. Isaac, thinking it was Esau due to the goatskins, blessed Jacob, saying:

“May God give you heaven’s dew and earth’s richness— an abundance of grain and new wine. May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed and those who bless you be blessed.”

As soon as Jacob left, Esau returned with his prepared meal and discovered that Jacob had deceived their father and received the blessing. Esau was furious and vowed to kill Jacob after their father’s death.

Rebekah, fearing for Jacob’s life, sent him away to her brother Laban in Haran until Esau’s anger subsided.

This story illustrates themes of deception, favoritism, and the consequences of dishonesty within families. It also demonstrates how God’s will can be accomplished despite human deceit, as Jacob ultimately receives the blessing that God had promised to him.
