The story of “Hole in the Roof” – “छत में छेद” की कहानी

The story of “Hole in the Roof” is found in the New Testament, specifically in the books of Mark (2:1-12), Matthew (9:1-8), and Luke (5:17-26). This narrative highlights Jesus’ power to heal and forgive sins, and the faith of those who sought His help.

The story takes place in Capernaum, a town where Jesus often stayed and preached. Jesus was teaching in a house that was so crowded with people that there was no room left, not even outside the door.

A group of friends had a paralyzed man who they believed could be healed by Jesus. However, they couldn’t get near Him because of the crowd. Determined to help their friend, they went up to the roof, removed some of the roof tiles, and lowered the paralyzed man on his mat right in front of Jesus.

When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Some teachers of the law (scribes) were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Jesus knew what they were thinking and said, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’?” To demonstrate His authority to forgive sins, Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” Immediately, the man got up, took his mat, and walked out in full view of them all. The crowd was amazed and praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

The friends’ determination to bring the paralyzed man to Jesus, even to the point of breaking through the roof, demonstrates a powerful, active faith. Their actions show the importance of persistence and creativity in seeking Jesus’ help. The story underscores Jesus’ divine authority to forgive sins and heal. By healing the paralyzed man, Jesus proves His power and His divine identity. Jesus prioritizes the man’s spiritual need (forgiveness) before his physical need (healing). This highlights the holistic nature of Jesus’ ministry, addressing both spiritual and physical ailments. The healing serves as a public testimony to Jesus’ power and identity, leading the crowd to glorify God.

The story of “Hole in the Roof” is a powerful testament to faith, the authority of Jesus, and the transformative power of encountering Him. It encourages believers to be persistent in their faith, to seek Jesus’ help in all circumstances, and to trust in His power to forgive and heal.
