The story of gideon’s little army – गिदोन की छोटी सेना की कहानी
The story of Gideon’s little army is found in the book of Judges in the Bible. The Israelites were being oppressed by the Midianites because they had turned away from God and worshiped idols. God chose Gideon, from the tribe of Manasseh, to deliver Israel from the Midianites.
The Angel of the Lord appears to Gideon while he was threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding from the Midianites. The Angel tells Gideon that God has chosen him to save Israel and assures him of God’s presence. Gideon expresses doubt and asks for a sign to confirm it’s really God speaking to him.
Gideon asks for a sign with a fleece of wool, where the fleece would be wet with dew while the ground around it would remain dry. God grants the sign, and the next morning, the fleece is soaked with dew, while the ground is dry. Still uncertain, Gideon asks for another sign, this time that the fleece would be dry while the ground would be wet with dew. Again, God grants the sign, confirming His call to Gideon.
Gideon gathers an army from the tribes of Israel to fight against the Midianites. God instructs Gideon to reduce the size of the army to demonstrate His power. Gideon starts with 32,000 men, but God tells him the army is too large, and those who are fearful can leave. About 22,000 men leave. God then instructs Gideon to bring the remaining 10,000 men to a test by water. Those who lapped the water like a dog were chosen, and 9,700 men were sent home, leaving only 300.
With only 300 men, Gideon divides them into three companies and gives each man a trumpet, an empty pitcher, and a torch inside the pitcher. They surround the Midianite camp at night and at a signal, break the pitchers, revealing the torches, and blow the trumpets, shouting, “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon!” The Midianites, startled and confused, flee in panic, and the Israelites pursue them.
The Midianites are defeated, and Gideon’s army pursues their leaders. Gideon sends word to the Ephraimites, who join the pursuit and capture two Midianite leaders, Oreb and Zeeb. Gideon returns victorious, and the Israelites celebrate his triumph.
The story of Gideon’s little army illustrates God’s power to deliver His people even with a small and unlikely force. It emphasizes the importance of faith and obedience to God’s instructions, even when they seem unconventional. Gideon’s victory against the Midianites restored Israel’s faith in God and brought peace to the land for many years.
