The story of Esau’s terrible mistake – एसाव की भयानक गलती की कहानी
The story of Esau’s terrible mistake is found in the book of Genesis, chapter 25.
Esau and Jacob were twin brothers born to Isaac and Rebekah. Esau was the firstborn, and according to tradition, he would inherit the birthright, which included a double portion of the family’s wealth and leadership of the family after their father’s death.
One day, when Esau returned from the fields hungry and exhausted, he found Jacob cooking a stew. He asked Jacob for some of it, saying he was famished. Jacob agreed, but he made a cunning proposal: he would give Esau some stew in exchange for his birthright.
Esau, in his hunger and impulsive nature, replied, “Look, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?” He then swore an oath to Jacob and sold his birthright to him in exchange for a bowl of stew.
In this way, Esau made a rash and foolish decision, prioritizing his immediate physical needs over his long-term inheritance and responsibilities. He despised his birthright, showing little regard for its significance.
Later, when their father Isaac was old and blind, he intended to give Esau his blessing, which was traditionally given to the firstborn. However, Rebekah, who favored Jacob, devised a plan to deceive Isaac into blessing Jacob instead.
Rebekah dressed Jacob in Esau’s clothes and covered his hands and neck with goat skins to mimic Esau’s hairy appearance. Isaac, unable to see, was fooled into blessing Jacob with the birthright blessing.
When Esau returned and discovered what had happened, he was filled with bitterness and anger towards Jacob. He vowed to kill him, forcing Jacob to flee to his uncle Laban’s house to escape Esau’s wrath.
Esau’s terrible mistake serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of making decisions based on immediate desires and impulses rather than considering the long-term implications. It also highlights the importance of honoring one’s commitments and responsibilities.
