The story of elisha and the woman with olive oil – एलीशा और जैतून के तेल वाली स्त्री की कहानी

The story of Elisha and the woman with olive oil is found in the Old Testament of the Bible, specifically in 2 Kings 4:1-7. It is a story about God’s provision and the faith of a widow in a time of crisis.

Elisha was a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel and the successor to the prophet Elijah. He was known for performing many miracles during his ministry.

The widow in the story was a woman in a desperate situation. Her husband, who had been one of the “sons of the prophets” (a disciple or follower of the prophetic tradition), had died, leaving her with debts she could not pay. As a result, her two sons were at risk of being taken as slaves by her creditor to pay off the debt.

The widow approached Elisha, telling him of her dire circumstances. She explained that her husband had died and left her with debts she could not pay. The creditor was threatening to take her two sons as slaves.

Elisha asked the woman what she had in her house. She replied that she had nothing except a small jar of olive oil. Elisha then instructed her to go and borrow empty jars from all her neighbors, as many as she could find.

Elisha told the woman to go into her house with her sons, close the door behind them, and start pouring oil from the jar into the borrowed vessels. As she and her sons followed Elisha’s instructions, the small jar of oil continued to flow and fill all the vessels they had gathered.

The widow and her sons followed Elisha’s instructions with faith, and the oil continued to flow until all the vessels were filled.

Once all the vessels were filled, the woman reported back to Elisha. He instructed her to sell the oil and pay off her debt with the proceeds. With the remaining money, she and her sons could live.

The story illustrates how God provides for those in need, even in seemingly impossible situations.

The widow’s faith and obedience to Elisha’s instructions were crucial in her receiving the miracle.

Elisha’s role as a prophet was to mediate God’s power and guidance to the people, demonstrating the importance of spiritual leadership.

The story emphasizes the importance of community support and cooperation, as the woman relied on her neighbors for the vessels.

The story of Elisha and the woman with olive oil demonstrates God’s ability to provide for His people in times of need, as well as the importance of faith, obedience, and community support.
