The story of david returning saul’s spear – दाऊद द्वारा शाऊल का भाला लौटाने की कहानी

The story of David returning Saul’s spear occurs in 1 Samuel 26. This is one of the key moments in David’s relationship with King Saul, as it highlights David’s respect for Saul’s position as the Lord’s anointed king, despite Saul’s relentless pursuit of David to kill him.

David is once again on the run from King Saul, who is obsessed with killing him. Saul, along with 3,000 of his men, is searching for David in the wilderness of Ziph. One night, Saul and his men set up camp on a hill. David, aware of Saul’s location, sends out spies to confirm Saul’s position.

David decides to take a bold step and sneaks into Saul’s camp at night with one of his men, Abishai. They find Saul asleep in the camp, surrounded by his soldiers, with his spear stuck in the ground near his head and a jug of water nearby. Abishai, seeing this as an opportunity to end their troubles, offers to kill Saul with his own spear, believing that God has delivered Saul into David’s hands.

However, David refuses to kill Saul, stating that he will not harm the Lord’s anointed king. Instead, David instructs Abishai to take Saul’s spear and water jug as proof that they had been there and could have killed Saul but chose not to.

After leaving the camp, David climbs to a safe distance on a hill and calls out to Saul’s army. He specifically addresses Abner, Saul’s general, criticizing him for failing to protect the king. David then reveals that he has Saul’s spear and water jug, proving that he could have killed Saul but chose to spare his life.

When Saul hears David’s voice, he recognizes him and is struck by David’s mercy. Saul acknowledges his wrongdoing in pursuing David and admits that David is more righteous than he is. David returns the spear and water jug, and Saul blesses David, predicting that David will do great things and eventually succeed as king.

This episode marks the second time David spares Saul’s life (the first being in the cave at En Gedi, found in 1 Samuel 24), reinforcing David’s loyalty to God and his respect for Saul’s kingship, despite Saul’s unjust treatment of him. It also demonstrates David’s moral integrity and his reliance on God to bring about justice in His own time.
