Three of David’s mighty men overheard his wish and, risking their lives, broke through the Philistine lines to draw water from the well and bring it back to David.
However, when they presented the water to David, he refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out as an offering to the Lord. David explained that he could not drink the water because it represented the blood of his men who had risked their lives to get it. He considered their bravery and sacrifice too precious to consume and chose to honor God by offering the water as a libation.
This act demonstrated David’s deep reverence for God and respect for the courage and loyalty of his men, highlighting his humility and sense of justice as a leader.
