The story of david being chosen and anointed – दाऊद के चुने जाने और अभिषेक किए जाने की कहानी

The story of David being chosen and anointed as king is a pivotal moment in biblical history. It takes place in 1 Samuel 16, where David, a young shepherd, is chosen by God to be the future king of Israel, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey.

At this point, Saul, the first king of Israel, had been rejected by God because of his disobedience. Although Saul still reigned, God sent the prophet Samuel to anoint a new king, one who would be “after God’s own heart.”

God spoke to Samuel, saying, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen one of his sons to be king.”

Samuel was fearful, knowing Saul could kill him if he learned of his mission. But God gave Samuel a plan to take a heifer and say he was going to Bethlehem to offer a sacrifice.

When Samuel arrived in Bethlehem, the elders trembled, asking if he came in peace. Samuel reassured them and invited Jesse and his sons to the sacrifice.

As Jesse presented his sons, Samuel was initially drawn to the oldest, Eliab, thinking, “Surely the Lord’s anointed stands here before the Lord.” But God corrected Samuel, saying, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Jesse then presented seven of his sons to Samuel, but the Lord had not chosen any of them. Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?”

Jesse replied, “There is still the youngest, but he is tending the sheep.”

Samuel asked for David to be brought, and when David arrived, the Lord spoke to Samuel, saying, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.”

David, who was described as “glowing with health and having a fine appearance and handsome features,” was the least expected to be chosen by human standards. But God’s choice was not based on appearance or status—He saw David’s heart.

Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers. From that day on, the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David, marking the beginning of his divine calling. Though he would not immediately become king, this anointing set David apart for God’s purposes.

After the anointing, David continued his humble life as a shepherd, but he was now under God’s special favor. He would later rise to become Israel’s greatest king, known for his deep faith, leadership, and worship. David’s anointing pointed to his future role as a man after God’s own heart, despite his imperfections, and foreshadowed the coming of Christ, who would be the ultimate Shepherd-King.

This story teaches that God’s choice is often different from human expectations. God looks beyond outward appearances and sees the heart and character, choosing the humble, faithful, and obedient to fulfill His plans. David’s anointing was not just for leadership—it was a symbol of God’s ongoing covenant and promise to His people.
