The story of baptism and temptation – बपतिस्मा और प्रलोभन की कहानी
The story of Baptism and Temptation is a significant event in the life of Jesus Christ, marking the beginning of his public ministry.
Jesus traveled to the Jordan River to meet John the Baptist, who was baptizing people as a symbol of repentance. Although Jesus was sinless, he chose to be baptized by John to fulfill all righteousness and to inaugurate his public ministry. As Jesus emerged from the water, the heavens opened, and the Spirit of God descended like a dove and rested upon him. A voice from heaven proclaimed, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Immediately after his baptism, Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where he fasted for forty days and forty nights. During this time, Satan tempted him three times. The first temptation was to turn stones into bread to satisfy his hunger, but Jesus responded by quoting Scripture: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.”
The second temptation was to throw himself off the pinnacle of the temple and rely on angels to save him, but Jesus again quoted Scripture: “You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.” Finally, Satan offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the world if he would bow down and worship him, but Jesus rebuked him, saying, “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.”
After withstanding these temptations, Jesus emerged from the wilderness strengthened and empowered by the Spirit. He began his ministry of preaching, teaching, and performing miracles, proclaiming the kingdom of God and calling people to repentance and faith. The events of his baptism and temptation served as a confirmation of his identity as the Son of God and the Messiah, as well as a preparation for the challenges he would face in his earthly ministry.
