The story of amnon and tamar – अम्नोन और तामार की कहानी

The story of Amnon and Tamar is a biblical narrative found in the Second Book of Samuel, in the Old Testament.

Amnon was the eldest son of King David, and Tamar was his half-sister, the beautiful sister of Absalom, another son of David. Amnon fell in love with Tamar, and his infatuation grew into an obsession. Amnon’s friend, Jonadab, devised a plan to help him get close to Tamar. He advised Amnon to feign illness and request Tamar’s presence to prepare food for him.

When Tamar came to Amnon’s quarters to care for him, he overpowered her and raped her. After the assault, Amnon’s feelings for Tamar turned to hatred, and he ordered her to leave. Tamar, devastated and disgraced, tore her royal robe and put ashes on her head as a sign of mourning.

Absalom, Tamar’s brother, discovered what had happened and harbored intense anger toward Amnon. He bided his time and, two years later, during a feast, he arranged for Amnon to be murdered by his servants in retaliation for raping Tamar. After Amnon’s death, Absalom fled and lived in exile for a period before eventually being reconciled with King David.

This tragic story illustrates the consequences of lust, betrayal, and revenge within the context of a dysfunctional family. It’s important to note that biblical narratives are often interpreted in various ways, and different religious traditions may emphasize different aspects of the story.
