The story of abraham and lot – इब्राहीम और लूत की कहानी

The story of Abraham and Lot, found in the Book of Genesis, illustrates the importance of generosity and peace among family members.

Abraham and his nephew Lot were both wealthy shepherds living in Canaan. Their herds had grown so large that the land could not support them all. As a result, disputes arose between Abraham’s herdsmen and Lot’s herdsmen over grazing rights.

Abraham, being a peacemaker, proposed a solution to avoid conflict. He said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herders and mine, for we are close relatives. Is not the whole land before you? Let’s part company. If you go to the left, I’ll go to the right; if you go to the right, I’ll go to the left.”

Lot looked around and saw that the plain of the Jordan River was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, while the area around Zoar was like the land of Egypt. So, Lot chose the whole plain of the Jordan for himself and moved his tents near Sodom, a city known for its wickedness.

After Lot had left, the Lord spoke to Abraham and said, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.”

Abraham then moved to the region of Hebron, where he settled near the great trees of Mamre. There, he built an altar to the Lord.

This story illustrates Abraham’s selflessness and faith in God’s promises. Despite having the right to choose the best land, Abraham allowed Lot to make the first choice, showing his willingness to prioritize peace and family harmony over personal gain. Ultimately, Abraham’s act of generosity was rewarded by God’s continued blessings and the fulfillment of His promises.
