Story of wise men and a star – बुद्धिमान व्यक्तियों और एक सितारे की कहानी

The story of the Wise Men and the Star is a well-known narrative from the Bible, found in the Gospel of Matthew, specifically in Matthew 2:1-12. It is a part of the nativity story and tells of the visit of the Wise Men (also known as the Magi) to the baby Jesus in Bethlehem.

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Wise Men from the East came to Jerusalem. They were often considered scholars, astronomers, or astrologers. The Bible does not specify the number of Wise Men, but tradition has popularized the idea of three due to the three gifts they brought.

The Wise Men saw a star in the East, which they believed was a sign of the birth of a king. This star guided them to Jerusalem.

The Wise Men arrived in Jerusalem and inquired about the newborn king. Their question troubled King Herod, as he saw Jesus as a potential threat to his own rule.

Herod gathered the chief priests and scribes and asked them where the Messiah was to be born. They referred to the prophecy of Micah, which indicated Bethlehem as the birthplace of the Messiah.

The Wise Men left Jerusalem, and the star they had seen in the East reappeared, guiding them to Bethlehem. The star stopped over the place where Jesus was.

Upon finding Jesus, the Wise Men presented him with three gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These gifts symbolize the recognition of Jesus as a king (gold), a priest (frankincense, used in worship), and a sacrifice (myrrh, which was used for embalming).

The Wise Men were warned in a dream not to return to Herod, as he intended to harm the child. So, they departed for their own country by another route.

After the Wise Men’s visit, Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus fled to Egypt to escape King Herod’s wrath. They remained there until it was safe to return.

The story of the Wise Men and the Star is significant in the Christian tradition as it highlights the recognition of Jesus as a divine figure and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies regarding the Messiah’s birthplace. It also symbolizes the universality of Christ’s message, as the Wise Men came from the East to worship him, representing the inclusion of the Gentiles in the salvation story. The narrative is often an integral part of the Christmas season and is celebrated as the Feast of the Epiphany.
