Gabriel delivers a message from God, saying, “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.”
Mary, in her humility and confusion, asks Gabriel how this is possible since she is a virgin. Gabriel explains that the child will be conceived by the Holy Spirit and that nothing is impossible with God.
Mary responds with faith and submission, saying, “I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled.” In this moment, she accepts her divine role in God’s plan.
As foretold, Mary becomes pregnant by the power of the Holy Spirit while still a virgin. This event is known as the Virgin Birth or the Immaculate Conception.
Meanwhile, Joseph, who is initially troubled by Mary’s pregnancy, has a dream in which an angel also appears to him and explains that Mary’s child is conceived by the Holy Spirit and will be the Messiah.
Mary and Joseph travel to Bethlehem due to a Roman census. While in Bethlehem, Jesus is born in a humble setting, placed in a manger, as there was no room at the inn.
