A bright light from heaven suddenly shone around Saul, causing him to fall to the ground. He heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Saul responded, “Who are you, Lord?” The voice replied, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.”
As a result of this encounter, Saul was struck blind. He was led by the hand into Damascus, where he remained blind for three days and did not eat or drink during this time.
Meanwhile, in Damascus, a disciple named Ananias received a vision from the Lord instructing him to go to Saul, who was praying in a specific house on Straight Street. Ananias was initially hesitant, knowing Saul’s reputation as a persecutor. However, the Lord reassured him that Saul was chosen to be a vessel to spread the gospel.
Ananias visited Saul, placed his hands on him, and said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you came—has sent me that you may receive your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. Saul was then baptized and began to eat and regain his strength.
After regaining his sight, Saul, now known as Paul, began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. His conversion marked a significant shift in his life, and he became one of the most influential apostles, spreading Christianity throughout the Roman Empire.
Saul’s conversion and subsequent restoration of sight symbolize the transformative power of encountering Christ. His story highlights themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the powerful change that faith in Jesus can bring to one’s life.
