Story of parable of an unforgiving servant – क्षमा न करने वाले सेवक के दृष्टांत की कहानी

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant is a well-known parable taught by Jesus Christ, found in the New Testament of the Bible, in the book of Matthew, specifically in Matthew 18:21-35. It’s a powerful story that illustrates the importance of forgiveness and the consequences of harboring unforgiving attitudes.

The story begins with Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples, asking Him how many times he should forgive someone who sins against him. Peter suggested forgiving up to seven times, likely thinking he was being generous.

In response to Peter’s question, Jesus tells a parable about a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. One of his servants owed him an enormous debt, often interpreted as representing a debt of sin or wrongdoing.

The debt of the servant was so massive that he could never hope to repay it in his lifetime. When the servant could not pay, the king ordered that the servant, his family, and all his possessions be sold to repay the debt.

In a desperate plea, the servant fell to his knees before the king, begging for patience and promising to repay the debt. The king was moved with compassion and, rather than selling everything, he forgave the entire debt and released the servant.

However, after being forgiven, the servant went out and found a fellow servant who owed him a much smaller debt. He seized the fellow servant and began choking him, demanding payment.

When the fellow servant pleaded for patience and offered to repay the debt, the unforgiving servant refused and had the fellow servant thrown into prison until the debt was paid.

Other servants witnessed this and reported it to the king. The king, angered by the ungrateful and unforgiving behavior of the servant he had forgiven, summoned the servant back and handed him over to be tortured until the original debt was paid.

Jesus concluded the parable by emphasizing the importance of forgiving others. He said that God would treat us in the same manner if we did not forgive others from our hearts.

This parable serves as a powerful reminder of the concept of forgiveness and God’s grace. It teaches that, just as God forgives our sins and wrongdoings, we should be willing to forgive others. Failure to do so can have serious consequences and hinder our own forgiveness and reconciliation with God. It underscores the importance of a forgiving and merciful heart in the Christian faith.
