Story of parable of a good samaritan – एक अच्छे सामरी के दृष्टांत की कहानी
The Parable of the Good Samaritan is one of the most well-known and beloved parables taught by Jesus, as recorded in the New Testament of the Bible, specifically in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 10:25-37). It’s a story that emphasizes the importance of compassion, kindness, and loving one’s neighbor.
A religious scholar, often referred to as a lawyer, approached Jesus and asked Him, “Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
In response to the scholar’s question, Jesus told the Parable of the Good Samaritan:
A man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho, a notoriously dangerous and winding road. Along the way, he was attacked by robbers, beaten, and left for dead. A priest happened to pass by but chose to walk on the other side of the road and avoid the injured man. Likewise, a Levite, another religious figure, did the same.
However, a Samaritan, a person from a group often in conflict with the Jews, came upon the wounded man. He had compassion for the injured traveler, treated his wounds, and poured oil and wine on them. The Samaritan then put the wounded man on his own animal, took him to an inn, and cared for him.
The Samaritan asked the innkeeper to take care of the injured man and promised to pay for any additional expenses upon his return.
After telling the parable, Jesus asked the scholar, “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
The scholar replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”
Jesus then instructed the scholar to “Go and do likewise.”
The Parable of the Good Samaritan teaches a fundamental lesson about the importance of compassion and love for one’s neighbor, regardless of differences in ethnicity, religion, or social status. It challenges us to extend help and care to those in need, just as the Samaritan did.
This parable is a reminder of the second of the two greatest commandments given by Jesus: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (the first being “Love the Lord your God with all your heart”). It serves as a timeless example of what it means to be a good neighbor and to act with selfless compassion.
