Story of othniel & ehud – ओत्नीएल और एहूद की कहानी

The stories of Othniel and Ehud are two separate accounts from the Old Testament of the Bible, specifically from the book of Judges. These stories depict two different judges whom God raised up to deliver the Israelites from oppression.

Othniel:
Othniel was the first judge mentioned in the book of Judges. The Israelites had fallen into the hands of King Cushan-Rishathaim of Aram Naharaim, who oppressed them for eight years. In response to the Israelites’ cries for deliverance, God raised up Othniel, who was Caleb’s younger brother and from the tribe of Judah.

Othniel led the Israelites into battle against King Cushan-Rishathaim, and with God’s help, they were victorious. The Israelites enjoyed forty years of peace under Othniel’s leadership.

Ehud:
Ehud’s story is found in Judges 3:12-30. After Othniel’s death, the Israelites again did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and God allowed Eglon, the king of Moab, to oppress them. Eglon’s forces took control of Jericho, and the Israelites were subject to Moab’s rule for eighteen years.

God raised up Ehud, a left-handed man from the tribe of Benjamin, to deliver the Israelites from Moab’s oppression. Ehud devised a plan to assassinate Eglon and carried out his plan by presenting a tribute to the king and then privately delivering a message to him. He told Eglon he had a secret message, and when they were alone, Ehud drew a dagger he had hidden on his right thigh and plunged it into Eglon’s belly. Eglon died, and Ehud escaped.

Ehud then rallied the Israelites and led them to victory over the Moabites. They gained control of the fords of the Jordan River, cutting off Moab’s escape routes. The Israelites enjoyed peace for eighty years under Ehud’s leadership.

Both stories of Othniel and Ehud emphasize God’s role in delivering the Israelites from oppression. These judges were chosen by God to lead the people to victory, highlighting the importance of faith and obedience in times of hardship. The stories also demonstrate that God uses individuals with diverse backgrounds and abilities to accomplish His purposes.
