Story of jehovah giving his laws – यहोवा द्वारा अपने नियम देने की कहानी

Story of Jehovah (God) giving His laws, primarily focusing on the Ten Commandments, is a key event in the Bible. It is detailed in the Book of Exodus, chapters 19 and 20. This event, occurring at Mount Sinai, is pivotal in the religious history of Judaism and Christianity.

After being freed from slavery in Egypt, the Israelites, led by Moses, journey through the wilderness and arrive at Mount Sinai (also called Mount Horeb). God instructs Moses to prepare the people for His appearance by having them consecrate themselves and wash their clothes.

On the third day, amidst thunder, lightning, a thick cloud, and the sound of a trumpet, God descends onto Mount Sinai in fire. The mountain is enveloped in smoke, and the whole mountain trembles violently. God warns the people not to come too close to the mountain or touch its base, as doing so would result in death.

Moses ascends the mountain, and God speaks to him. He instructs Moses to remind the people to stay back and consecrate themselves. Even the priests who approach the Lord must sanctify themselves.

God speaks the Ten Commandments directly to the people. These commandments are a foundational moral code for the Israelites and include:

1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall not make for yourself a carved image.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.

The people are terrified by the divine presence and the accompanying phenomena. They ask Moses to speak to God on their behalf, fearing they would die if God spoke directly to them. Moses reassures them and acts as the mediator between God and the people.

Following the Ten Commandments, God gives Moses further laws and ordinances to guide the social, moral, and religious life of the Israelites. These are detailed in the subsequent chapters of Exodus. Moses writes down all the words of the Lord and reads them to the people. They agree to obey all that the Lord has spoken.

God gives Moses two tablets of stone inscribed with the Ten Commandments, written by the finger of God. These tablets serve as a tangible and permanent record of the covenant between God and the Israelites.

The Ten Commandments serve as the ethical foundation for Judaism, Christianity, and Western legal systems. This event marks the formal establishment of the covenant relationship between God and the Israelites. The laws given at Sinai encompass not just religious obligations but also social justice and interpersonal conduct, reflecting God’s comprehensive governance over His people.

This story emphasizes God’s desire for a holy and obedient people, the importance of the law in guiding human behavior, and the role of Moses as a mediator and leader.
