Story of hagar and ishmael sent away – हाजिरा और इश्माएल को दूर भेजे जाने की कहानी
The story of Hagar and Ishmael being sent away is found in the Old Testament of the Bible, in the Book of Genesis, specifically in Genesis 21:8-21. It tells the story of Hagar, an Egyptian maidservant, and her son Ishmael, who were part of the household of Abraham and Sarah.
Hagar was an Egyptian maidservant who was given to Abraham by Pharaoh during his time in Egypt. Sarah, Abraham’s wife, was unable to bear children, so she suggested that Abraham have a child with Hagar. As a result, Ishmael was born to Hagar.
After the birth of Ishmael, tensions arose in the household. Sarah became jealous and resentful of Hagar and Ishmael, possibly because Hagar had conceived when Sarah could not.
Several years later, Sarah miraculously gave birth to a son named Isaac, fulfilling God’s promise to Abraham. Isaac’s birth exacerbated the conflict between Sarah and Hagar.
When Isaac was weaned and celebrated, Sarah saw Ishmael mocking her son. This further fueled her anger and jealousy. Sarah approached Abraham and demanded that he send Hagar and Ishmael away, fearing that Ishmael might pose a threat to Isaac’s inheritance.
Abraham was distressed by Sarah’s request, but God reassured him that He would also make a great nation out of Ishmael because he was Abraham’s offspring. God told Abraham to listen to Sarah, and Hagar and Ishmael were sent away with some provisions.
Hagar and Ishmael wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba, facing severe hardships. They ran out of water, and Hagar feared for her son’s life.
God heard the cries of the distressed Hagar and Ishmael. He provided a well of water for them in the wilderness, saving their lives. Ishmael grew up in the wilderness and became a skilled archer.
As promised, Ishmael’s descendants did become a great nation, known as the Ishmaelites. They played a significant role in the region’s history.
The story of Hagar and Ishmael being sent away highlights themes of family conflict, jealousy, God’s providence, and the fulfillment of divine promises. It also serves as an important episode in the narratives of Abraham’s family and the development of the Abrahamic faith traditions.
