Story of farmer and seed – किसान और बीज की कहानी

“The Farmer and the Seed” is a classic story, often used in various cultures to teach important life lessons. While there are many versions and adaptations, one of the most famous is the Parable of the Sower from the Christian New Testament, taught by Jesus to illustrate different responses to the word of God.

The story, as told in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, describes a farmer who went out to sow seed. As he scattered the seeds, they fell on different types of ground, leading to different outcomes.

Some seeds fell along a path, where they were trampled on, and the birds ate them up. Jesus explained that these seeds represent the word of God that is heard but then taken away by the devil, so it cannot take root in the person’s heart.

Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they initially sprouted but soon withered because they had no moisture. These seeds symbolize those who hear the word and receive it with joy, but they have no firm root. They believe for a while but in times of testing, they fall away.

Some seeds fell among thorns, which grew up with them and choked the plants. This situation illustrates those who hear the word, but as they go on their way, they are choked by life’s worries, riches, and pleasures, and they do not mature.

Finally, some seeds fell on good soil, where they grew and produced a crop—a hundred times more than was sown. According to Jesus, these seeds represent those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

The moral of the story, especially in its biblical context, is about the importance of being receptive to spiritual teachings. It emphasizes that the success of the ‘seed’ (or the word of God) isn’t solely dependent on the sower’s actions but also significantly on the quality of the ‘soil’ (or the state of the heart and mind of the listener). The story is often used to encourage self-examination and to inspire individuals to cultivate an open, receptive mind and heart, akin to the good soil, that allows for growth and understanding.
