Story of deborah and the judges – दबोरा और न्यायाधीशों की कहानी

The story of Deborah and the Judges is found in the Old Testament book of Judges, primarily in chapters 4 and 5.

During a time when the Israelites were oppressed by the Canaanites, God raised up a prophetess named Deborah to judge Israel. She held court under a palm tree, which became known as the “Palm of Deborah,” in the hill country of Ephraim.

Deborah sent for Barak, a military commander from the tribe of Naphtali, and instructed him to gather 10,000 men from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun to confront the Canaanite army, led by Sisera, who had 900 chariots of iron.

Barak was hesitant to go into battle without Deborah accompanying him, so she agreed to go with him. However, she prophesied that the honor of defeating Sisera would not belong to Barak but to a woman.

When the battle took place at Mount Tabor, the Lord caused confusion among the Canaanite forces, and they were defeated by the Israelites. Sisera fled on foot and sought refuge in the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, who was at peace with the Canaanites.

Jael welcomed Sisera into her tent, offering him milk to drink and covering him with a blanket. However, when Sisera fell asleep, Jael took a tent peg and a hammer and drove the peg through his temple, killing him.

Meanwhile, Barak pursued Sisera’s army, and the Lord routed them before him. Not a man was left.

After the victory, Deborah and Barak sang a song of praise to God, celebrating the deliverance of Israel and honoring those who had fought in the battle.

Deborah’s leadership as a judge and prophetess played a crucial role in the deliverance of Israel from their oppressors. Her story illustrates God’s faithfulness in raising up unlikely leaders and using them to accomplish His purposes.
