Story of crossing the jordan river – जॉर्डन नदी पार करने की कहानी

The story of crossing the Jordan River is a significant event in the Bible, particularly in the Old Testament book of Joshua. It marks a pivotal moment in the history of the Israelites as they entered the Promised Land under the leadership of Joshua.

Moses, the great leader who led the Israelites out of Egypt, had died, and Joshua was chosen as his successor. Joshua was tasked with leading the Israelites into the land that God had promised to Abraham and his descendants.

The Israelites camped near the Jordan River, which presented a natural barrier to entering the Promised Land. It was harvest season, and the river was at flood stage. God instructed Joshua to have the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant lead the people to the edge of the river.

God assured Joshua that He would be with him just as He had been with Moses. The priests carrying the Ark were told to step into the river, and as soon as they did, the waters would stop flowing, creating a dry path for the Israelites to cross.

Following God’s instructions, the priests stepped into the Jordan River, and miraculously, the waters upstream stopped flowing. The priests stood in the middle of the dry riverbed, holding the Ark, while the Israelites crossed over to the other side.

God instructed Joshua to have twelve men, one from each tribe, pick up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests stood. These stones were set up as a memorial at the place where the Israelites camped that night, serving as a reminder of God’s miraculous intervention.

After crossing the Jordan, the Israelites underwent circumcision as a sign of their covenant with God. They also celebrated the Passover, reaffirming their identity as the people of God.

The crossing of the Jordan River paved the way for the conquest of the city of Jericho, the first major obstacle in the Promised Land. The story of Jericho’s conquest follows the crossing of the Jordan in the book of Joshua.

The crossing of the Jordan River symbolizes the fulfillment of God’s promise to bring the Israelites into the land He had promised to them. It also serves as a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and His ability to lead His people through seemingly impossible situations. The story is a significant part of Israel’s history and the broader biblical narrative.
