Story of brave queen esther – बहादुर रानी एस्तेर की कहानी
In the ancient Persian Empire, during the reign of King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I), there lived a young Jewish woman named Esther. Orphaned at a young age, Esther was raised by her cousin Mordecai in the city of Susa. She was known for her beauty, grace, and strong character.
King Ahasuerus, after deposing his former queen, Vashti, sought a new queen. He ordered a search for the most beautiful young women in the kingdom. Esther was among those chosen to be presented to the king. Despite her Jewish heritage, which she kept secret on Mordecai’s advice, Esther found favor in the eyes of everyone who saw her. Ultimately, she won the heart of King Ahasuerus and was crowned queen.
During Esther’s reign, a man named Haman rose to power as the prime minister of Persia. Haman despised Mordecai because he refused to bow to him, as Mordecai’s allegiance was to God alone. In his rage, Haman devised a plot to exterminate all the Jews in the empire, casting lots (purim) to determine the date of their destruction. He convinced King Ahasuerus to issue a decree ordering the annihilation of all Jews on the 13th day of the month of Adar.
Mordecai learned of Haman’s evil plan and urged Esther to use her position as queen to save her people. Approaching the king without being summoned could result in death, even for the queen. However, Mordecai reminded Esther that her royal position might have been granted for the very purpose of saving the Jews, saying, “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Esther called for a three-day fast among all the Jews in Susa, asking them to pray for her. After the fast, she bravely approached King Ahasuerus, who extended his golden scepter to her, signaling that she was welcome to speak. Esther invited the king and Haman to a banquet she had prepared.
At the banquet, Esther revealed her Jewish heritage and exposed Haman’s plot to destroy her people. King Ahasuerus, enraged by Haman’s treachery, ordered Haman to be hanged on the very gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. The king then issued a new decree allowing the Jews to defend themselves against their enemies, leading to a great victory for the Jewish people.
The deliverance of the Jews from Haman’s plot is celebrated annually during the festival of Purim. This joyous occasion commemorates the bravery of Queen Esther and the salvation of the Jewish people through her courageous actions. The story of Esther is a powerful testament to faith, courage, and the belief that individuals can make a significant difference in the face of adversity.
