Jehoshaphat was a king of Judah who reigned during a time of great turmoil and uncertainty. Despite the challenges he faced, Jehoshaphat demonstrated remarkable faith and trust in Jehovah, the God of Israel.
One day, Jehoshaphat received alarming news: a vast army from Moab, Ammon, and Mount Seir was marching against Judah. The people were terrified, knowing they were vastly outnumbered. In this moment of crisis, Jehoshaphat did not rely on his own strength or military might. Instead, he turned to God.
Jehoshaphat called for a nationwide fast and gathered the people of Judah to seek help from Jehovah. Standing before the assembly at the temple, Jehoshaphat prayed earnestly. He acknowledged God’s sovereignty and reminded the people of His past faithfulness. He pleaded for divine intervention, saying, “We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”
In response to Jehoshaphat’s prayer, the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, a Levite. He delivered God’s message to the people: “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow, march down against them. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you.”
Encouraged by this message, Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah bowed down in worship before Jehovah. The next morning, Jehoshaphat appointed singers to go ahead of the army, praising God for His holiness and steadfast love. As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the invading armies, causing them to turn on each other in confusion. By the time Judah’s army arrived, they found their enemies completely defeated.
Jehoshaphat and his people gathered the spoils of war and returned to Jerusalem with great joy. They went to the temple, where they praised and thanked Jehovah for His miraculous deliverance. The surrounding nations heard of God’s intervention and feared the Lord, bringing peace to Jehoshaphat’s kingdom.
Jehoshaphat’s story is a powerful example of faith and reliance on God. In the face of overwhelming odds, he sought God’s guidance, trusted in His promises, and experienced a miraculous victory. This story reminds us that when we face our own battles and uncertainties, we too can trust in Jehovah, knowing that the battle belongs to Him.
