The story of Absalom’s Defeat is found in the Old Testament of the Bible, specifically in the book of 2 Samuel, chapters 15 to 18. It recounts the rebellion of Absalom, King David’s son, against his father’s rule and the eventual tragic end of Absalom’s rebellion.

Absalom’s Rebellion: Absalom was one of King David’s sons and was known for his handsome appearance and charismatic personality. He became discontented with his father’s rule and sought to usurp the throne. Absalom cleverly devised a plan to win the hearts of the people, positioning himself as a champion for justice and pretending to be more sympathetic to their needs than his father.

Gaining Support: Absalom gradually gained the support of many influential people in Israel, including some of King David’s counselors. He also garnered a significant following among the people, creating a substantial challenge to David’s authority.

David’s Flight: As Absalom’s rebellion gained momentum, King David realized that he needed to flee from Jerusalem to avoid direct conflict and bloodshed in the city. David left the city with his loyal followers and sought refuge outside Jerusalem.

Battle in the Forest of Ephraim: The confrontation between David’s forces and Absalom’s forces came to a head in the forest of Ephraim. The battle took place despite David’s instructions to his commanders to deal gently with Absalom.

Death of Absalom: During the battle, Absalom’s hair got caught in the branches of a tree as he rode his mule. He was left hanging in mid-air, vulnerable and defenseless. One of David’s men named Joab found him in this state and, despite David’s orders to spare Absalom’s life, Joab killed him.

David’s Grief: When the news of Absalom’s death reached David, he was devastated and grieved deeply for his son. Despite Absalom’s rebellion, David loved him as his son and mourned his loss.

Return to Jerusalem: With Absalom’s rebellion quelled, David returned to Jerusalem, where he was reinstated as the king.
