In the coastal city of Joppa, there was a beloved disciple named Dorcas (also known as Tabitha), known for her good works and acts of charity. She was a seamstress, creating garments and clothes for the widows and the poor in her community. One day, she fell ill and died, leaving the entire community in deep sorrow. Her friends washed her body and laid her in an upper room.

Hearing that Peter was nearby in Lydda, the disciples sent two men to him, imploring him to come without delay. Peter immediately set out for Joppa and, upon arrival, was taken to the upper room. The widows stood around him, weeping and showing him the tunics and other garments Dorcas had made while she was with them.

Peter sent everyone out of the room. He then knelt down and prayed. Turning to the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, arise.” Dorcas opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her to her feet. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive to them.

This miraculous event became known throughout Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord. Peter stayed in Joppa for some time with a tanner named Simon, continuing to spread the message and perform miracles in the name of Jesus.
