One evening, after a long day of teaching and ministering to the crowds, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along in the boat, just as he was. Other boats also accompanied them.
As they sailed across the Sea of Galilee, a furious storm suddenly arose. The waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Despite the raging storm, Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion.
The disciples, terrified and fearing for their lives, woke him up and said, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”
Jesus got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down, and it was completely calm.
Turning to his disciples, Jesus asked, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
The disciples were filled with awe and said to each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
This story of Jesus calming the storm reveals his divine authority over nature and highlights the importance of faith. It teaches that with Jesus, we can find peace and calm even in the most terrifying and chaotic situations.
