The story of balaam’s donkey speaking – बालाम के गधे के बोलने की कहानी

The story of Balaam’s donkey speaking is found in the Book of Numbers, Chapter 22, in the Bible.

Balaam was a non-Israelite prophet living in the land of Moab. Balak, the king of Moab, became fearful of the Israelites, who were encamped nearby. He sought out Balaam and asked him to curse the Israelites so that they would not be a threat to him.

God, however, warned Balaam not to curse the Israelites because they were blessed. Balaam initially refused Balak’s request. Balak then sent more prestigious messengers with promises of greater rewards, and Balaam decided to go with them.

On the journey, an angel of the Lord blocked Balaam’s path. Balaam’s donkey saw the angel and veered off the road into a field. Balaam, frustrated, struck the donkey to get it back on the path.

As they continued, the angel of the Lord appeared again, this time in a narrow part of the path with nowhere to turn. The donkey pressed against the wall, crushing Balaam’s foot. Again, Balaam struck the donkey.

Finally, the angel appeared a third time, blocking the path in a narrow gorge. This time, the donkey laid down and refused to move, frustrating Balaam to the point of striking it again.

At this point, the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and it spoke to Balaam, asking him why he had struck it. Balaam, astonished, engaged in a conversation with the donkey.

After this exchange, the Lord opened Balaam’s eyes, and he saw the angel standing in the path with a drawn sword. The angel rebuked Balaam for his actions and told him to speak only what the Lord commanded.

Balaam proceeded to Balak, but instead of cursing the Israelites, he blessed them with prophecies of their greatness and victories. Despite Balak’s initial anger, he recognized Balaam’s inability to curse what God had blessed.

This story serves as a reminder of God’s sovereignty and His ability to use even unlikely means to accomplish His purposes. It also emphasizes the importance of obedience to God’s commands.
