The story of jethro the midianite welcoming moses the stranger – अजनबी मूसा का स्वागत करने वाले मिद्यानी जेथ्रो की कहानी

The story of Jethro the Midianite welcoming Moses the stranger is a significant moment in the life of Moses, a major figure in the Old Testament of the Bible. This story can be found in the Book of Exodus, specifically in Exodus 2:11-22.

Moses was born to Hebrew parents but raised in the Egyptian royal family after being found in a basket by Pharaoh’s daughter. He grew up aware of his Hebrew heritage and became troubled by the mistreatment of his people, the Israelites, by the Egyptians.

Jethro was a Midianite priest and the father of Zipporah. He lived in the land of Midian, which is located in the northwestern part of the Arabian Peninsula.

Moses, after defending a Hebrew slave and killing an Egyptian, feared for his life when Pharaoh found out. He fled Egypt and traveled to the land of Midian.

When Moses arrived in Midian, he rested by a well. While there, he witnessed a group of shepherds harassing seven women who had come to draw water for their father’s flocks.

Moses intervened and helped the women by driving away the shepherds. He then assisted the women in watering their flocks.

The seven women returned to their father, Jethro (also known as Reuel), earlier than usual. When Jethro asked how they returned so quickly, they told him about the Egyptian man (Moses) who had helped them.

Jethro invited Moses to his home to thank him for his help. Moses accepted the invitation and ended up staying with Jethro and his family.

During his stay with Jethro, Moses married Zipporah, one of Jethro’s daughters. Moses and Zipporah had a son, whom they named Gershom, meaning “I have become an alien in a foreign land” (Exodus 2:22).

Jethro’s willingness to welcome a stranger (Moses) into his home demonstrates the importance of hospitality and kindness.

Moses’ defense of the women at the well highlights the importance of standing up for those who are vulnerable and in need.

Moses’ time in Midian was a formative period in his life, preparing him for his future role as the leader of the Israelites.

The story illustrates a connection between the Hebrew Moses and the Midianite Jethro, demonstrating how different cultures can interact positively.

Jethro the Midianite’s welcome of Moses the stranger is a story that highlights themes of hospitality, kindness, and the unfolding of God’s plan in Moses’ life. It is an important chapter in Moses’ journey as he prepares for his future role as the leader of the Israelites.
