The story of Jesus returning to heaven, known as the Ascension, is found in the New Testament of the Bible, specifically in the Book of Acts, chapter 1, verses 6-11.
After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to his disciples over a period of forty days, teaching them about the kingdom of God and instructing them in their mission.
Before his ascension, the disciples asked Jesus if he was going to restore the kingdom to Israel at that time. Jesus replied that it was not for them to know the times or dates set by the Father, but they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they would be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
After speaking these words, Jesus led his disciples to the vicinity of Bethany, on the Mount of Olives. There, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While blessing them, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
As the disciples were gazing up into the sky where Jesus had disappeared, two men dressed in white stood beside them and asked, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
After witnessing the ascension, the disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy and spent their time in the temple, praising God.
The Ascension of Jesus marks the conclusion of his earthly ministry and his return to the presence of God the Father in heaven. It also serves as a promise of his eventual return in glory to establish his kingdom fully on earth.
