Story of rahab helping the spies – राहाब की जासूसों की मदद करने की कहानी
The story of Rahab helping the spies is found in the Bible in the Book of Joshua, specifically in Joshua 2:1-24. It is a story of courage, faith, and redemption.
After the death of Moses, Joshua was chosen as the leader to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land, the land of Canaan. The Israelites had been wandering in the wilderness for forty years and were now on the verge of entering the land God had promised them.
Before the Israelites crossed the Jordan River into Canaan, Joshua sent two spies into the city of Jericho, which was a significant and heavily fortified city in Canaan. The purpose of the spies’ mission was to gather information about the city and its defenses.
The spies entered Jericho and found lodging at the house of a woman named Rahab. Rahab was a prostitute, but she is known for her role in the story as a woman of great faith and courage.
When the king of Jericho learned about the presence of the Israelite spies in the city, he sent a message to Rahab, asking her to bring the spies to him. However, Rahab had hidden the spies on her rooftop under stalks of flax.
Rahab recognized the spies as Israelites and told them that she had heard about their God, Yahweh, and the miraculous things He had done for the Israelites, including parting the Red Sea. She expressed her faith in God and her fear of the impending destruction of Jericho when the Israelites would arrive.
Rahab then asked the spies for protection for herself and her family when the Israelites conquered Jericho. In exchange for her assistance, she requested that they spare her family and place a scarlet cord in her window as a sign of safety.
The spies agreed to Rahab’s request and made a solemn oath to her. They told her that she and her family would be spared when Jericho was conquered, as long as she kept their mission a secret and did not betray them.
Rahab helped the spies escape the city by lowering them down the city wall through a window with a rope. She instructed them to hide in the hills for three days until the pursuit of the Jericho authorities had ceased.
Following the spies’ return to Joshua, the Israelites crossed the Jordan River and began the conquest of Jericho. The city was eventually conquered in a miraculous manner, with the walls of Jericho collapsing after the Israelites circled the city for seven days, blowing trumpets on the seventh day.
As promised, Rahab and her family were spared when Jericho fell. They were brought out of the city and placed under the protection of the Israelites. Rahab eventually became part of the Israelite community and is even mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the New Testament (Matthew 1:5).
The story of Rahab helping the spies is a powerful testament to the importance of faith, courage, and redemption. Rahab’s faith in the God of Israel saved her and her family from the destruction of Jericho, and she is remembered as a woman of great faith in biblical history.
